Datejust

Congratulations on your new Rolex Date or Rolex Datejust! These timepieces are renowned for their precision and durability, but to keep them functioning optimally, you need to know how to properly wind and set them. Here’s a simple guide to help you get the most out of your Rolex.

Understanding the Basics

Before setting your watch, it’s crucial to manually wind it to ensure the movement is fully charged. This applies to all Rolex models, whether they feature a quickset date function or not.

Manual Winding:

1.Unscrew the Crown: Rotate the crown counterclockwise until it pops out from the case (the winding position).
2.Wind the Crown: Turn the crown clockwise about 25-30 times. This is necessary if the watch hasn't been worn for 1-2 days.
3.Screw the Crown Back In: Gently push the crown back into the case and screw it tightly to secure the watch.

Setting the Time for the Rolex Datejust

Quickset Datejust Models (models made in 1977 or later)

1. Set the Date: Pull the crown out to the 2nd position, rotate the crown clockwise to adjust the date.
2. Set the Time: Pull the crown out to the 3rd position and adjust the time.
3. Secure the Crown: Push the crown back in and screw it tightly.

Non-Quickset Datejust Models (models made before 1977)

1.Pull the Crown: Gently pull the crown out to the last notch.

2.Adjust the Date and Time: Rotate the crown clockwise to move the hour and minute hands. Continue turning until the correct date appears in the date window. Note that when the correct date appears, you are in the AM hours. Then, set the time accurately, considering whether it is currently AM or PM.

3.Secure the Crown: Once the date and time are set, push the crown back in and screw it down tightly to ensure water resistance.

Why Winding is Important

Even though Rolex watches have a self-winding Perpetual movement, they require regular winding to ensure they keep running accurately, especially if not worn daily. The power reserve typically lasts between 48-72 hours, so if your watch stops, manual winding will get it back in action.

Handling Your Rolex

  • Avoid Over-Winding: Modern Rolex watches have a slip gear to prevent damage from over-winding.
  • Regular Winding: If not worn daily, wind your Rolex to keep it running smoothly.
  • Gasket Maintenance: Frequent unscrewing of the crown can wear out internal gaskets. Be mindful of this to maintain water resistance.

If you experience resistance or any problems when winding the watch, please stop and consult an authorized Rolex service provider (or our E.W watches related store) to avoid damage.

With these steps, you'll keep your Rolex Date or Datejust in top shape and ensure its longevity. Enjoy your timepiece and the precision it brings to your daily life!
