New Watch | The Tudor Blue Bay Chronograph Limited Edition Is Here! Is This Exclusive New Release Worth Buying?
The Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Blue" Boutique Edition: Is This Exclusive Chronograph Worth Buying?
In 2017, Tudor launched an unexpected chronograph – the Tudor Heritage Black Bay Chronograph. At that time, Tudor had not fully focused on the Black Bay series, so the word "Heritage" was added to the name to distinguish it. This watch became an instant success, leading to several variations, but it lacked the most classic blue design. Now, Tudor has finally released the Tudor Black Bay Chrono "Blue" Boutique Edition (M79360B), adding the much-anticipated blue dial version to the series.
Design Overview: A Blend of Tradition and Innovation
The main change in this new model is the color of the dial, while other aspects maintain the classic design of the Black Bay series. It features a 41mm stainless steel case, sapphire crystal glass, and a water resistance of up to 200 meters, all of which continue the robust quality of the series. Although the case and crown have a polished finish, the screw-down chronograph pushers may not be to everyone's taste. Overall, the design strikes a perfect balance between vintage and modern elements.
Bezel and Bracelet Upgrades: Luxury in the Details
A key highlight of the new model is the "Tudor Blue" anodized aluminum bezel. While this change is subtle, the font and spacing on the bezel have been modernized. The bracelet features a 22mm "Jubilee-style" five-link design with Tudor's tool-free T-Fit clasp, allowing for more comfortable and flexible wear.
Dial Design: A Deep Dive into Blue Elegance
The new dial also adopts the same blue color as the bezel, creating a harmonious and unified look. The satin sunburst blue dial is complemented by applied hour markers and the iconic Black Bay hands, all coated with Super-LumiNova for optimal readability in any light condition. Red accents on the dial add a touch of visual interest.
Chronograph Functionality: Inspired by the Classics
Another standout feature of the dial is the silver sub-dials, which are curved and inspired by the 1970 Oysterdate—the first chronograph from Tudor. This not only enhances the vintage feel of the watch but also adds functionality. The overall dial layout is balanced and appealing, blending classic and modern aesthetics.
Internal Movement: Ensuring Stability and Precision
The watch is powered by the MT5813 movement, based on Breitling's Caliber 01 and specially modified by Tudor. This movement offers a 70-hour power reserve, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, a silicon balance spring, and a column-wheel chronograph mechanism. It is also COSC-certified, ensuring excellent precision and durability.
Boutique Exclusive Edition: Is It Worth the Investment?
While this boutique-exclusive chronograph may be seen as "just a blue version," its market reception is expected to be very positive. Even though it's a boutique edition, which could pose a challenge for some buyers, it may signal Tudor's future launch of an all-blue Black Bay chronograph. Priced at approximately 5,700 EUR, it is available only through Tudor boutiques but is not a limited edition.
