Hermès "L'heure de la lune" Watch: Compressing Billions of Light Years of the Universe into a Timepiece
In Hermès' perception of time, minutes and seconds transcend mere mechanical movement of gears, becoming a delicate translation of life’s elegance. Inspired by the annual theme “Drawn to Craft,” Hermès in 2025 unveiled the new Arceau L’heure de la lune watch, once again showcasing the brand’s whimsical creativity and exquisite craftsmanship. This collection debuts as a set of three watches, limited to just 12 sets worldwide, becoming the highlight of the 2025 Geneva Watches and Wonders exhibition.

A Revolutionary Moon Phase Display
Unlike traditional moon phase watches, the "L'heure de la lune" watch features dual rotating dials that display the moon phases of both the northern and southern hemispheres. This design not only exemplifies the brand’s innovative spirit but also infuses astronomical romance onto the wrist. The dial materials are exceptional, made from lunar fragments, Vesta asteroid, and ancient meteorites, compressing the vast time span of billions of light years into the compact space of a watch case.
Three Creations, Three Cosmic Journeys
Blue Grey Moon - Lunar Meteorite
- The first piece features an 18K white gold case with a blue titanium bezel, reminiscent of cold stars shining in the universe. The dial is inlaid with lunar meteorite, symbolizing cosmic fragments and a messenger of Earth-Moon evolution. Each texture narrates a billion-year space journey, with the wearer seemingly binding a cold moon to their wrist. The mobile dual dials slowly revolve over 59 days, revealing the waxing and waning of the moon in both hemispheres. The southern hemisphere moon is adorned with a Pegasus motif designed by Dimitri Rybaltchenko, embedding Hermès’ classic symbols within the starry sky. A matte deep sea blue alligator strap further enhances the watch’s romantic feeling of a solitary moon voyage.

Vesta - Asteroid Meteorite
- The second piece turns its gaze toward the king of the asteroid belt—Vesta. Crafted from rose gold with a deep gray titanium bezel, the watch embodies a star awakening at dawn, with warm light inflected by industrial sensibilities. The dial’s Vesta meteorite fragments contain secrets from the early formation of the solar system. The dials’ rotation presents the rhythm and order of celestial movements, as if witnessing the march of stars. A graphite alligator strap adds a touch of ruggedness, seamlessly fusing the grandeur of ancient celestial bodies with Hermès craftsmanship.

Erg Chech - Achondrite Meteorite
- The third piece reaches back to the more distant origins of the universe. An 18K white gold case paired with a rose gold bezel creates a sense of temporal and spatial contrast. The dial features Erg Chech achondrite meteorite, one of the oldest known rocks on Earth, aged over 4.566 billion years, witnessing the hot and chaotic birth of the solar system. The floating dual dials and moon phase display complement this cosmic relic, narrating the philosophy of time. A graphite alligator strap enhances the watch’s depth, like faint glittering starlight in the cosmic night, whispering secrets of the primordial era.

A Dialogue Between Craftsmanship and the Cosmos
The Hermès "L'heure de la lune" watch is not only a timekeeper but a conversation between craftsmanship and the cosmos. With the rarity of only 12 sets worldwide, each set becomes a coveted collector’s masterpiece. From the moon to Vesta, to ancient meteorites, each watch leads the wearer on an interstellar voyage, weaving time, craftsmanship, and the universe into a splendid tapestry within its confines.
When you fasten the "L'heure de la lune" watch on your wrist, you are not merely an observer of time, but an explorer of the universe. This is not just a watch, but a personal journey among the stars.
